The Morning Commute for Wednesday, June 11th
Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about the 2025 football season.
Earlier this week, ESPN published its preseason Football Power Index for the Southeastern Conference. To no shock, Texas was the pick to win the league, and number one overall in the nation. Also to no surprise, the numbers have Georgia #2 in the nation and the SEC, with Alabama #3 in the country and the league.
In what should also probably not be real shocking, the expectations for Mizzou weren’t exactly sky high – the Tigers were picked 12th in the 16-team league. However, the FPI power ranking numbers project Mizzou as the 23rd-best team in the country, so keep that in mind before getting too peeved at ESPN.
Mizzou has no doubt gained a bunch of respect nationally in posting consecutive double digit win seasons the past two years. But they’ll always be looked at as second tier in the vaunted SEC until they start picking off the marquee programs.
The Tigers have put a scare into Georgia recently more than once under Eli Drinkwitz, but haven’t been able to get over the finish line. It’s going to take a win against an SEC heavyweight most likely before the projections by computers or voters will include Mizzou in the upper echelon of the league.
Where do you think the Tigers will fit in the SEC this fall? Is the 12th-place prediction by ESPN spot on? Too low? Vote below to cast your thoughts…

Kalen DeBoer is certainly not Nick Saban but also…it’s been one year, yeah? Are we going to prognosticate the next four years based on the first tumultuous, transitional phase of a new coaching regime? Who am I kidding, this is college football, of course we’re going to do that. But I don’t think it was nearly as bad as it seemed…
All three of Alabama’s losses in 2024 came in road conference games. We all know where the Tide will be playing Mizzou this fall, am I right?…
Almost everyone respects the program Dennis Gates is building, and recognizes that Mizzou returns two of the SEC’s best players in Anthony Robinson II and Mark Mitchell. However, many analysts are worried about the amount of offense they’re losing in Caleb Grill and Tamar Bates, worried enough that they’re not comfortable slating them as a Top 25 team…
Starting with football; the recruiting is picking up with the addition of Omaha tight Isaac Jensen. Jensen becomes the fourth commitment of Missouri’s 2026 class joining Gavin Sidwar, Keenan Harris, and Jabari Brady. For more on Brady, here’s our latest Recruiting Reset.
Good to see things heating up on the recruiting trail, especially during a slow news time for football…
