The Morning Commute for June 16, 2025.
Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about how some of these guys still have it.
The annual Mizzou Hoops alumni game happened this weekend, with former Tigers from both the hardwood and the gridiron squaring off in a matchup between Team Bowers and Team Carroll. Hard to find a ton of information on the team rosters, but thankfully the Columbia Missourian — via our boy Quentin Corpuel — was out here doing work.
What we do know for sure is that Tre Gomillion, coach and recent player for the program, was the ultimate hero. He scored a clutch tip in just as time expired to give Team Carroll the dub.

On the 2 to 1 ratio of the new scholarship going to women’s sports: “I think we have shown that we’re committed to our Olympic sports, inclusive of our female sports, in that as well. We’re having some real success in some of those sports, as you’ve seen with volleyball, gymnastics and others. So it was an important part of that discussion.”
Money? To Olympic sports? A likely story! I’ll believe when I see it!
The Tigers have been a fringe Top 25 pick for some national writers, but the skepticism around their offense — they are losing their two best pure scorers and shooters, after all — has led most analysts to leave them on the outside looking in.
Listen up, analysts, because the fans are spitting! You might learn a little something!
- Over at Rock M+, we’re talking about the Mizzou Soccer schedule drop and the remaining dregs of college hoops commitments.
