How do the people feel about all these transfers?
College basketball is officially over for the season and I has a big sad. But hoops programs nation wide have wasted no time turning the page to next season. Coaches are building rosters while players make big decisions on where they want to play and a LOT of the action is funneling through the transfer portal.
According to the most recent SB Nation Reacts survey, nearly two-thirds of Missouri fans believe the basketball team is headed in the right direction.
A one-time rule change has made things a bit different this offseason. Unlike other years, it’s expected every player who transfers this offseason will be allowed to immediately play next year. While the NCAA has been allowing this to happen more regularly in the past few years, players were still required to make a case for why they should be able to play, with some still being denied. But the one-time transfer rule change has been voted on and approved but it’s still just a one time free move. If your first fit isn’t right, fine… but maybe make sure the second time around is good or you’re going to have to sit.
Nearly three-fourths of fans around the country said they like the rule change, and I do too. I think they put some odd limits on it that I don’t support, but hey it’s an improvement.
Just over half of college basketball fans want the rule change to be in place permanently, which it is… but with a few caveats.
With the increased ability to change teams and play immediately, it would be understandable for fans to expect dramatic changes to the roster. However, 42 percent of fans think there will be no net change. 30 percent of fans think their favorite team will add more players via the transfer portal than lose, while 27 percent believe the inverse. I do think it will allow teams to approach their roster in a different way and help players in the middle.
