Recruiting Reset: Drinkwitz’s Trenches Project Grows with Khalief Canty Jr.

Mizzou adds a commitment from 6’5 offensive lineman Khalief Canty Jr.

While Eliah Drinkwitz and Mizzou football have faced challenges recruiting the 2026 class, it’s clear Drinkwitz is focused on building a towering lineup — adding yet another 6’5 prospect to an already tall group.

Three-star offensive lineman Khalief Canty Jr. made his pledge to Missouri and became the first offensive lineman to commit to the Tigers’ 2026 class. Since then, Mizzou has added Brandon Anderson and Braylon Ellison to bolster its offensive line for the future.

Canty announced his decision on June 24th through his Instagram account and became the sixth Tiger to commit to the class. That number is now up to 10 with the most recent commitment of Tony Forney on Independence Day.

During the lineman’s junior campaign, Canty played a role in Cass Techs state championship in the MHSAA Division 1 State tournament. Cass Tech has produced numerous NFL players like former defensive lineman Deone Walker, who went on to Kentucky and then was selected in the fourth round of this past year’s NFL Draft.

Canty showed his ability to hold his blocks for his rusher during his junior season, even when the play moved downfield. He’s a big ‘play to the whistle’ type of guy and most of the time, defensive rushers tend to find themselves on the ground by the end of the play when lined up against the Missouri commit. The 6’5 lineman took an official visit to Columbia on June 20th, one week after he visited his in-state frontrunner, the Michigan State Spartans. Just four days after his visit to Missouri, he announced his pledge to be a Tiger.

Where He Fits: Two offensive linemen were selected during the 2025 NFL Draft in Armand Membou and Marcus Bryant, and with the recent All-American honors for Cayden Green, the Tigers are starting to build a strong reputation when it comes to producing offensive lineman talent.

Canty has the physical tools to develop into an NFL-caliber talent — boasting a build similar to that of Trent Williams and Tyron Smith, two standout NFL linemen. He’s expected to play tackle for the Tigers, assuming he remains at the position during his senior year at Cass.

When He Plays: With the potential that Green might head to the NFL Draft after the season, and three expected starters entering their last year of eligibility, there’s plenty of opportunity for Khalief Canty Jr. to make instant impact if Drinkwitz feels that he is ready. Two-of-four true freshman saw playing time this season for Missouri, and with the slow recruiting start for the Tigers’ 2026 class, Canty stands in a good position to see playing time early into his collegiate career. With the addition of West Virginia tackle Johnny Williams IV — expected to start at the left tackle position this upcoming season — Canty is likely to either backup or compete for a starting spot against the transfer for his first couple of seasons.

What It Means: Any pickup is better than no pickup at this point for Drinkwitz and the Missouri Tigers. The team only has 10 current commits and are ranked at the bottom of the SEC alongside Auburn for 2026 recruiting. Canty, Ellison and Anderson appear to be a spot of positional strength for the Tigers during this cycle, but time will tell how Canty can translate his game to the next level.
