Olympic Sports Catch Up: Let’s Check in With EVERYONE Edition

June 2, 2025 by Rock M Nation

Now including football!

Welcome to “Olympic Sports Catch Up!” As the Olympic sports manager at this beautiful little website, I lead a team of talented and passionate writers who have a special interest in non-revenue Olympic sports at Missouri (I despise the phrase “non-revenue.”) Because it’s the summertime and (flag) football was added to the LA2028 Olympics, I’ll make an exception for the inclusion any Mizzou athletic team.

I’ve broken down each of the sports below and will be sharing fun/relevant info, social posts and any writing our talented crew has done.

Enjoy!

Baseball

  • While they may not have won many games, Kerrick Jackson’s crew did score their highest spring GPA in program history, a 3.284.
  • Pitching coach Tim Jamieson is stepping down from his post after two seasons in Columbia, though it appears that he will remain in the program, just in a different role.

I can confirm reports that Tim Jaimieson is stepping down as pitching coach for #Mizzou Baseball but there is a possibility he may remain with the program in a different role.

Basketball- Men’s

  • READ: Mizzou Basketball Player Review: T.O. Barrett (Sam Snelling)
  • The NBA Draft will be here before you know it, and the withdrawal of a bunch of players to return to college, it makes the chances of players like Tamar Bates, who did a great job at the NBA Draft Combine, and Caleb Grill, more likely to be drafted.
  • In the newest ESPN Draft big board, Bates has moved from 100 to 68, while Grill moved from 83 to 74. Former Tiger John Tonje is at 42 on here.
  • Per the On3 Mock Draft 5.0, Tamar is all the way up to no. 46, going to the Orlando Magic.

Basketball- Women’s

  • Looks like some of the new Tigers have gotten moved in! Welcome, Shannon Dowell (IL State), Chloe Sotell (Pepperdine), Jordana Reisma (Cleveland St.), and Jayla Smith (Purdue)! We’re still on the lookout for Sydney Mains (FAU), Lisa Thompson (Rutgers) and Saniah Tyler (Kentucky), but they’ll all be here soon! I love how the team has set up its Instagram, with a highlight for each team member.

  • We have game times for a couple of contests! The August 28 opener v. Central Arkansas will be at 6:30pm and air on SEC Network. The renewal of the Border War will be at 2:30pm on September 6 and air on ESPN2, and the Louisiana game on September 13 will be at 3pm, airing on ESPN+/SECN+.
  • Football earned its second highest GPA of any semester, a 3.002, over the past decade. When you think about how many student-athletes are on the football team, that’s pretty awesome. Per MUTigers, football posted a multiyear score of 989 – 25 points better than the sport’s average of 964 and the third-highest score among SEC schools and its second-best APR score in program history.
  • Here’s some construction photos from the end zone project.

  • Irene Garcia Sanchez opened up her summer schedule at the Campeonato Espanol Absoluto and finished 42nd with 15-over par.
  • The team also excelled in the classroom, earning a 3.669 GPA in spring, and posted their 12th perfect multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) score.

Gymnastics

  • READ: Reacts results | SB Nation Reacts poll: Which Mizzou program had the best year? (Josh Matejka)
  • After a successful Finnish Championships, our favorite Finlandier (I don’t think this is a word, but go with it), Kaia Tanskanen, went to Germany for the European Championships, where she made finals in the All-Around, placing 11th, and participated in the mixed event alongside her boyfriend, Robert Kirmes. Teammates Mara Titarsolej, Jocelyn Moore, Lisa Szeibert, and Helen Hu were on hand to watch, which I absolutely LOVE.

What a showing from @kaiatan23 at the European Championships

She finished 11th in the all-around, her personal-best finish at the meet, marking the highest finish in the all-around for any female Finnish gymnast ever #MIZ pic.twitter.com/zR66nkTSY7

— Mizzou Gymnastics (@MizzouGym) May 31, 2025

  • The team also killed it in the classroom, earning their highest spring GPA ever, a 3.719.
  • In other major news, it didn’t take long for the SEC to realize the error of its ways, and the conference championships will include ALL NINE schools moving forward. You know what would have been even cooler? If they’d done it right in the first place. The bottom four teams per NQS will compete in the earlier session, while the top five teams will compete in the evening session.
  • Per Gymnastics Now:

With the addition of Oklahoma to the SEC gymnastics ranks, the conference changed the format of the meet for 2025, opting to leave one school – whoever finished last in the regular season rankings by NQS – out of the conference championship, including individuals. This decision faced backlash from fans, athletes, and coaches throughout the season, especially as Arkansas proved it was capable of wreaking havoc on the conference’s top teams.

Soccer

  • Golan’s team continues to excel in the classroom, earning its highest spring GPA with a 3.846.
  • The Tigers made some coaching moves this past week, hiring Renee Horton as associate head coach on Tuesday, promoting Kelsey Wys, who had been an assistant the past three seasons, to co-associate head coach, and adding Austen Parker as an assistant role. Why all the coaching changes? Two of Golan’s staff members took jobs as head coaches in the offseason— Andy Stoots at Bowling Green, and Dimitri Kaliakin, who was named head coach at St. Lawrence University.
  • Horton held the same position, alongside being the recruiting coordinator at West Georgia last season. Prior to that, she worked as a video analyst at UGA, spent a year at USC and was on Xavier’s staff from 2018-21.
  • Per the release, she will be primarily focused on the attacking side of the ball on the field and will also have a heavy hand in recruiting, scouting and analytics, amongst other duties.
  • Wys, a former All-American Florida State goalkeeper from 2010-13, has had five players earn All-SEC honors during her tenure. She arrived in February 2022 after two seasons at App State.
  • Parker previously served as the goalkeepers coach at North Texas and Central Oklahoma, and will fill the same role in Columbia, allowing Wys to be elevated to AHC. Per MUTigers:

“We are extremely excited to bring Austen into the program,” Golan said. “We wouldn’t have been able to elevate Kelsey the way we are if we didn’t find the right person to come in to work with the GKs, and Austen is definitely the right person. He has a contagious energy, an extremely high attention to detail, and a relentless work ethic and competitive drive. In addition to working with the GKs, Austen will be heavily involved in recruiting and scouting amongst other duties.”

Softball

  • READ: Anderson adds ECU transfer Emma Jackson from portal (Karen Steger) | Mizzou Softball hires Jason Gwyn as new assistant coach (Matthew Gustafson)
  • The softball team recorded its highest spring GPA on record, 3.618.
  • Senior catcher Julia Crenshaw was named NFCA Third Team All-American on Wednesday afternoon after by far the best statistical season of her career.

She’s an All-American!!

Congratulations to Julia Crenshaw who was named a 2025 NFCA Third-Team All-American!!

  • The honor comes after the senior had the best statistical season of her collegiate career. Crenshaw finished with a team- and career-high .361 batting average with 56 hits, 14 doubles, 14 home runs and 32 RBI. She also scored 48 runs and stole 26 bases.
  • Crenshaw’s five leadoff homers were tied for second in the country. Her 37 walks were the seventh-most in a single season in program history, and her .723 slugging percentage this year is the ninth-best in program history.
  • Defensively, she caught an SEC-best nine runners stealing and finished with a .983 fielding percentage.
  • On Friday, the Tigers’ first (of hopefully MANY) new additions verbally committed to Missouri in highly rated ECU outfielder, Emma Jackson.

  • Coach Grevers & Co. welcome in Texas transfer Tanner Broughton, who will join an already good program on the rise.

  • In mid-May two divers showed out at the USA Diving National Championships as Collier Dyer took a silver in the 3-meter, qualifying for the World Championships, and a bronze in the 1-meter. Derek Colbert finish 9th on the platform at the same meet. As I said, the future is bright for Mizzou Diving!

Tennis

  • Bianca Turati and Missouri Tennis have been making moves recently, adding Auburn transfer Julie Bedard and New York native Jenna Kleynerman, who joins her sister, Michelle, in CoMo, a grad transfer who signed in mid-March.
  • Bedard, the third ranked Kentucky recruit out of high school, arrives after a successful freshman season at Auburn where she posted a 7-6 singles record and 7-4 doubles record in the fall while qualifying for the ITA Southern Regionals main draw.
  • Per MUTigers on the signing of the younger Kleynerman:

“I cannot wait to have Jenna here and start working with her to help our program achieve our goals. She has a strong personality and is very motivated. It will be fun having a pair of siblings on the same team.”

“I wanted to be a part of a good tennis program, and my sister Michelle is going there for her fifth year. It has always been a dream to be on the same team as her,” Kleynerman said in the release.

  • Per MUTigers on the addition of Bedard:

“I am very excited to welcome Julie to our team this coming fall. Transferring from Auburn, she is familiar with the competitiveness of the SEC and understands the toughness and intensity necessary to play at a high level. Julie has a ton of potential and love for the game. She also has unmatched work ethic and is determined to make a strong impact on our team. Her strong personality is a perfect match for our culture here. I am looking forward to welcoming her in August and starting to work together to achieve our goals.”

  • Tennis recorded an impressive spring semester in the classroom as well, earning a 3.770.

Track & Field

  • The Tigers just finished participating in the NCAA West Regionals in College Station, Texas on Saturday evening. Placing in the top 12 earned a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in NikeTown!
