Mizzou no-hits its way to the Super Regionals
We spend a looooooooot of time on Rock M Nation really digging into the minutae of sports. Analytics, advanced numbers, predictive formulas — that kind of stuff. So you know that when I give you the following analysis, it’s dependable.
Ahem: Making sure the other team didn’t score at all is good. In fact, it might even be the best thing you could do.
I know I’m going out on a limb here, but the method has proven itself. After all, just look at Mizzou Softball, which didn’t allow a single run in its regional weekend, blanking Illinois-Chicago, Northern Iowa and Iowa State and sending the Cyclones out in style — on the program’s 40th no-hitter of all time.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jordan Weber forced the leadoff batter to fly out on a 1-2 count to start the inning. She fell behind 3-0 in the count to the second batter but came back and struck her out swinging. For the final out, Weber jumped ahead 0-2 quickly. The batter fought it back to a 2-2 count before Weber finished the no-hitter with an eight-pitch strikeout.
Ending the game with an eight-pitch strikeout is bulldog material. You can’t accurately put into words how impressive it is that Jordan Weber no-hit an NCAA Tournament team on a day when the other team did a decent job of working counts.
Weber wasn’t the only pitcher to succeed this weekend (though she was also excellent on Friday.) To really get perspective of how dominant Mizzou’s pitchers were this weekend, take a look at this stat from MU Athletics.
Mizzou pitching did not allow a baserunner to move past second base in the Regional while only allowing two hits over 20 innings.
I’ve run the calculations, and the numbers bear it out — that’s #good.
Nathalie Jones from ABC 17 captured the moment where Weber completed her no-hitter, and it’s a great shot.

God, I’m so glad fans are back in the stands.
It’s good to see everyone stepping up to support the team as well.
At #Mizzou, it’s Family.

Larissa Anderson’s team will face James Madison in the Super Regionals. JMU is 37-1 and has won each of its last 27 games. Now would seem the ideal time to break said streak.

When I graduated from Mizzou, I said I’d never go back to school. Friday, I graduated with my Executive MBA from Rockhurst University. Honored to be a part of the 2021 cohort. HUGE shout out to my wife! Not possible without her love, sacrifices and support. Thanks, babe! pic.twitter.com/qrDdLcqhkf
