We’ve reached another offseason of turnover for the Tigers

Mizzou Baseball enters a crucial offseason for the program after a historically poor 2025 campaign, and head coach Kerrick Jackson and the Tigers are already experiencing major changes through the transfer portal.

We’ll keep you updated here on the team’s comings and goings over the next few months, and there’s been plenty of movement in the past week.

Arrivals

The Tigers have brought in one pitcher so far in the portal, but they have the potential to become an impact addition.

Keyler Gonzalez – June 3

I’m excited and truly grateful to announce that I’ll be continuing my academic and baseball career at the University of Missouri! First off, I want to thank God for always guiding me throughout this journey. I’m beyond thankful for my family and friends — your support has meant… pic.twitter.com/et3tEbqMg7

— Keyler Gonzalez (@KeylerGonzalez4) June 6, 2025

Gonzalez spent his first two collegiate seasons with Nova Southeastern, one of the best Division II programs in the country. The Sharks have produced numerous professional players, including J.D. Martinez and Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas.

The incoming junior made the jump to the starting rotation for Nova Southeastern in 2025, starting 14 games and throwing 86.2 innings with a 1.24 WHIP and 4.47 ERA. He allowed 3.3 walks per nine innings and totaled 87 strikeouts for a 2.72 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Gonzalez will likely return to the bullpen in 2026, where he thrived as a freshman with a 2.51 ERA in 18 appearances and 46.2 innings pitched. He allowed less than one runner on base per inning and had a 4.00 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 2024.

The Hialeah, Florida, native has a six pitch mix but will likely see the staff focus on turning two or three of those pitches into SEC quality offerings this offseason. Gonzalez is one of Kerrick Jackson’s best portal pickups at Mizzou.

His transition to the SEC should be much smoother than for the JUCO and lower-level additions which Jackson has been forced to rely on, and Gonzalez should provide quality depth in the bullpen with the ability to eat innings and get outs.

Departures

Mizzou has done well to retain their impact bats so far this offseason, but the Tigers have seen some important pitchers from last year’s squad enter the portal.

Aden Malpass – June 10

Eligibility: Sophomore

2025 Stats: Three games – 0-2, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K

Malpass saw limited action as a true freshman, only getting two at-bats as a Tiger. Meanwhile, young outfielders including Kaden Peer, Brady Picarelli and Tyler Macon either established themselves as key starters for the future or likely breakout candidates. With P.J. Green also joining the outfield mix next season, Malpass decided to seek a fresh start with a clearer path to playing time.

Josh Kirchhoff – June 8

In the Transfer Portal from the University of Missouri. First start in the CPL with @BBigfoots.

— Josh Kirchhoff (@KirchhoffJosh) June 8, 2025

Eligibility: Senior

2025 Stats: 11 appearances, 1 start, 11.2 innings pitched – 23.14 ERA, 3.51 WHIP, 13.9 BB/9, 7.7 K/9

New school: University of Minnesota

Kirchhoff was a little-used starter/reliever who couldn’t make the jump from community college to high-major DI baseball, an extremely tough transition that rarely happens. The Minnesotan was almost never called on despite the Tigers’ razor-thin bullpen depth, so he’ll head home and look for a fresh start with the Golden Gophers.

Seth McCartney – June 5

Extremely thankful for my time at Mizzou. With that being said, I have decided to enter the transfer portal as a grad student with one year of eligibility remaining. Meridian CC and Mizzou alum. Open to any and all opportunities!

— Seth McCartney (@SethMcCartney5) June 5, 2025

Eligibility: Senior

2025 Stats: 10 appearances, 11 innings pitched – 23.73 ERA, 3.55 WHIP, 9.8 BB/9, 9.8 K/9

McCartney was another JUCO transfer who couldn’t overcome an uphill battle making the transition to the SEC, struggling to find the plate and limit damage when he entered in relief. His usage increased as the Tigers’ bullpen depth waned, only seeing action in three games before the team reached the conference schedule.

Jeric Curtis – June 4

Eligibility: Junior/Senior

2025 Stats: 3 games – 0-7, two walks, four strikeouts, one stolen base

Curtis played in 34 games last year for the Tigers, hitting .254, and looked like a breakout candidate entering this season. But things quickly took a dramatic turn as he only appeared in three games before vanishing from the team and the roster. By March 1, head coach Kerrick Jackson publicly stated that Curtis was no longer with the team. He’ll look to reset his college career and get back on the field by entering the portal.

Kaden Jacobi – June 3

I have entered the transfer portal as a graduate student with one year of eligibility remaining.

— Kaden Jacobi (@K_Jacobi32) June 3, 2025

Eligibility: Grad Student

2025 Stats: 17 appearances, 5 starts, 46.2 innings pitched – 10.03 ERA, 1.91 WHIP, 4.6 BB/9, 9.8 K/9

Jacobi was one of Kerrick Jackson’s top options as a starter and stretch reliever to begin the season, but his performance regressed as the team got deeper into conference play and his innings were cut. The O’Fallon native was one of the more successful JUCO converts on the Tigers roster, all things considered, but will look for a fresh start.

Charlie Miller – June 3

— Charlie Miller (@CharlieMill9) June 3, 2025

Eligibility: Sophomore

2025 Stats: Did not play – injured

This one might sting looking back in a few years. Miller shined in fall ball after a decent true freshman season and seemed like he could make the sophomore leap. Alas, the Tigers never got to find out as he was injured and never made an appearance in 2025. Now, another team will try to tap his potential.

Danny Corona – June 2

Eligibility: Senior

2025 Stats: Did not play – injury

Corona was Kerrick Jackson’s star addition in the portal his first year as head coach and played in 38 games during the 2024 season, hitting .240 with a .712 on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS). He never got an opportunity to see a second year of SEC play, getting injured before the season began. Now, the former Wake Forest standout will move on and hope to regain his 2023 form.

Wil Libbert – June 2

Eligibility: Redshirt Sophomore

2025 Stats: 14 appearances, 11 starts, 53.2 innings pitched – 6.04 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, 5.5 BB/9, 9.2 K/9

Libbert’s departure will easily have the biggest impact on next year’s squad, and his entry into the portal is a major setback for the team’s long-term pitching development. The Blair Oaks graduate was the Tigers’ top starter in 2025, showing notable growth over the season and locking in a weekend rotation spot for next year.

Instead, the Cape Cod Baseball League-bound starter will also be on the search for another program this summer. Expect him to be a hot commodity in the portal, much like Logan Lunceford in 2024. Libbert seems likely to latch on to another high-major program.

Jaylen Merchant – June 2

Eligibility: Junior

2025 Stats: four appearances, 1.1 innings pitched – 54.00 ERA, 8.25 WHIP, 47.3 BB/9, 6.8 K/9

Merchant’s posted subpar numbers in 2024 at D-II South Carolina-Aiken but shined in summer ball, providing hope for a breakout campaign. That never happened (as seen in the numbers above), and his season went about as poorly as possible. With the new roster limits coming shortly, Merchant will depart for a third school in three seasons.

Tony Neubeck – June 2

Eligibility: Grad Student

2025 Stats: 10 appearances, four starts, 17.1 innings pitched – 16.62 ERA, 3.00 WHIP, 8.3 BB/9, 7.8 K/9

The fact that Neubeck pitched this season was an accomplishment in itself as he made his return from injuries that kept him off the field for over two calendar years. But he returned under less-than-ideal circumstances, needing to provide innings despite a shorter ramp-up process than usual because of the team’s pitching woes.

He never looked like the pitcher we saw in 2023, when he had a 3.86 ERA and carried future weekend starter hopes. Neubeck will try to revive that potential at another school in his final year of eligibility.
