Mizzou Links for Thursday, October 7
Pitcher U.
On Tuesday night, it was Tanner Houck making his Postseason debut. He pitched a 1-2-3 Top of the 7th inning with two strikeouts against the New York Yankees, helping the Boston Red Sox advance to the ALDS.
Last night, it was Max Scherzer’s turn in the National League Wild Card Game, unfortunately against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Mizzou is one of 10 Division 1 teams with with three or more players in the MLB Postseason. That’s pretty impressive. Of course, they’re all pitchers — and one is guaranteed to advance to the ALCS with the Red Sox playing the Rays.

Max Scherzer allowed just one run in 4.1 innings pitched, but he and the Dodgers still advanced to the NLDS with a walk-off home run in the Bottom of the 9th, winning 3-1 over the Cardinals.
The division series will feature Tanner Houck, Peter Fairbanks, and Max Scherzer, so….that’s cool.
And…..it was absolutely tough news to hear yesterday, as sophomore cornerback Ennis Rakestraw tore his ACL in practice and has been ruled out indefinitely.

This sucks. Here’s what Eli Drinkwitz had to say about Rakestraw’s injury.
Per the coach: “Ennis is a tremendous competitor,” head coach Eliah Drinkwitz said. “It’s an unfortunate part of the game. We have a great sports medicine staff to manage his rehabilitation and our team will support him every step of the way.”

We wish Rakestraw the best and are hoping for a speedy recovery. Here’s what he had to say about the news, an injury that has been bothering him since the Kentucky game.
Yep I’m good tho but just yesterday everyone thought I was leaving been battling my knee injury since the week of Kentucky https://t.co/raPpnTK4R7

One final note: Eli Drinkwitz gave an update on the status of wide receiver Mookie Cooper during his radio show. This is a promising sign.
On his radio show tonight, Eli Drinkwitz took a question from the audience on WR Mookie Cooper’s status: “He’s full speed. He’s ready to go. We look forward to him playing. He’s not held back at all. He’s ready to play.”
