Breathe deeply
A quick story for you this morning:
Back when Luther Burden decommitted from Oklahoma (and the rumor at the time was that he was flipping to Missouri), I approached a good friend of mine who roots for the Sooners pretty passionately. I rubbed the decommitment in ever so slightly, remarking that Mizzou was about to take away one of the Sooners’ prized recruits.
Her response? A sarcastic, “Oh noooooo, what’re we going to do without him?”
I imagine the same thing may be said of most Georgia fans should Burden commit to Missouri today. They can pretty easily brush it off because after all they’re bound to get another five-star at some point.
I don’t really have any takeaways from this story. I just think it must be nice to root for a football team whose trajectory won’t wholly change based on the commitment of one high schooler.
- Even after the weekend visit to Georgia, no changes in the 247 Crystal Ball, even from Allen Trieu who picked Missouri at the end of September. Trieu wrote this about Burden’s commitment yesterday.
East St. Louis (Ill.) WR Luther Burden gives several highlights of his Georgia visit.
With his decision just two days away, he says it’s such a close race that he may not decide until he’s at the table. (VIP) https://t.co/wzgjTWaaCC pic.twitter.com/ZHzaPs0XTI

- One new Rivals prediction for Georgia rolled in on Monday, but it’s from the editor of Bearcat Report, the site’s Cincinnati dispatch. Likely just a publisher choosing what he thinks is more likely to boost his site score.
- Dave Matter wrote about five ways a commitment from Burden would shape the Mizzou Football program and beyond, including local businesses who could recruit Burden to capitalize on NIL opportunities.
- Eric Blum at the Columbia Tribune recapped the story of Luther Burden’s recruitment leading up to Tuesday, including a confirmation that Eli Drinkwitz attended Burden’s game last Friday before the visit to Georgia was made.
- St. Louis’s own Frank Cusamano offered his insight on the situation, noting that while Burden enjoyed his visit, Drinkwitz was laying down the full press with the family.
Luther Burden had a great visit @GeorgiaFootball. Driven around in limos, eating the finest food, and seeing 92,000 fans. Kirby Smart gave him this line: “We don’t rebuild, we reload.”However, I find it interesting that Luther’s dad had 3 conversations with Drink while in Athens
