Tough news for the former Mizzou quarterback

Drew Lock is inching closer to his third season as an NFL quarterback, but unfortunately, he will begin the 2021 campaign as the backup quarterback for the Denver Broncos.

In an announcement on Wednesday, Teddy Bridgewater was named Denver’s starting quarterback after winning the starting nod over Lock.

According to Broncos’ beat reporter Mike Klis, Lock handled the news as well as he could have, which is certainly good to see.

I was told Drew Lock handled the news like a 10-year pro. Not surprised. He’s always been accountable, respectful of the press even after the tough games.

Here are some of Drew Lock’s quotes:

Drew Lock: “Obviously, it’s disappointing. Every feeling that you could possibly have at this point, this day, this circumstance, you know they’re running deep.” (1/4)

Here’s hoping Drew Lock responds well to this, and we’ll see what the future holds for him in Denver. According to James Palmer of the NFL Network, the Broncos still have ‘no desire’ to move on from Lock.

Moving on, Mizzou was well represented here in the 2021-22 St. Louis Post Dispatch’s Super 30 preseason countdown, which features the top senior college football prospects in the St. Louis area for local high school football.

So far, there are three Mizzou commits on here: Defensive back Isaac Thompson (SLUH) came in at No. 7.

Here’s Thompson on his commitment to Mizzou:

“We’re playing in the best conference in the country and it’s about an hour and a half from home. I felt I couldn’t go wrong with that.”

At No. 6, it’s defensive lineman Marquis Gracial from St. Charles.

“Marquis Gracial has sat in Nick Saban’s office. He’s been wooed by the most well-known college football programs in the nation. He’s rated a four-star recruit and one of the top players at his position.”

And Parkway West Athlete Ja’Marion Wayne comes in at No. 5.

“The Mizzou coaches were on me every day. They kept coming with it. I’d rather be with somebody that makes sure I’m on my A game then somebody that barely hits me up. Mizzou was on me, every day they’d hit me. They sold me with that.”

There could very well be one more Mizzou commit on here when it’s all said and done. No surprise, but of course it is Luther Burden, who topped this list at No. 1.

“Where Burden lands after his senior season is anyone’s guess at this point. He’s made several unofficial visits to Mizzou and coach Eli Drinkwitz has made a habit of convincing area standouts to keep their talents close to home. There is also buzz that Georgia could be a real option. Then there’s the possibility he falls back in with Oklahoma.”

Lots of good stuff there. M-I-Z! Onto the links.

  • Well, this doesn’t make any sense at all….

There will be no in-person postgame interviews for visiting media at SEC football games this year. Zoom only.
I’ll still travel to all of Mizzou’s road games this fall, but that’s disappointing considering we’ve been doing in-person interviews all summer.
