Commute: Tim Jamieson steps down as pitching coach

May 31, 2025 by Rock M Nation

The Morning Commute for Friday, May 30th, 2025.

Welcome to the Morning Commute

Far be it from me to lead off with baseball news, but I think this is significant news.

SEC ASST COACHING NEWS: I’ve learned that @MizzouBaseball pitching coach Tim Jamieson is stepping down from his post after two seasons back in Columbia and a wide-reaching search will begin for successor.

We had a short conversation on RockM.plus about it with Trripleplay, who is always on top of it:

I just got pretty solid confirmation Tim Jamieson will be shifting to a different position with Mizzou

The way this makes sense is if Jamieson is the one making the call. The issue with the program, or one of the issues this past season was the pitching and something needs to be done.

There are many many questions surrounding the baseball program. Jamieson’s return, even in a limited role, was meant to stir some echoes of past success and in turn did the opposite. There was no real swell of support from past players and the investment in the program stagnated. Jackson feels a bit like a dead man walking, but not for lack of effort.

At this point the root of the issues is deep enough it’s hard to know exactly where to start. Fixing the pitching issue might go a long way. But if there isn’t an investment from the administration it’s hard to see this as little more than shuffling the deck chairs on a sinking ship. I respect Jamieson and what’s he’s accomplished, I was hopeful for Jackson bringing some new energy to the program despite my belief that Steve Bieser was doing a fine enough job to stick around (at least until there was more commitment).

The question is if there are enough people who care about baseball in positions that matter to make any real changes.

Yesterday at Rock M and Rock M+

  • Mizzou Football got to announce their first three kick off times which includes the Central Arkansas, kU, and UL-Lafayette games. Hop over to RM+ to talk about it:

Mizzou then welcomes Kansas to Columbia for the first time since 2006 on Saturday, September 6. The SEC-Big 12 contest is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2.

Might’ve made more sense to feature this game in a higher profile evening time slot, but I personally don’t mind games that kick off late when you have to write about it. The mid afternoon is an ok choice with me.

  • Over at Rock M+, we’re talking about the end of the NBA Draft withdrawal deadline and how it’s impacted the SEC:

This has been (part) of the project I’ve been working on in recent weeks. Below are two tables. They include ALL returning players and ALL incoming division one transfers. They do not include incoming freshmen or non-DI transfers (Euros, DII or Juco). So this isn’t a perfect analysis yet, if it ever could be. The tables are sorted by Points Above Replacement “PAR.” That is, Evan Miya’s BPR that’s been possession weighted to give the college basketball equivalent of baseball’s Wins Above Replacement “WAR.” It’s a solid metric I’ve found.

Watkins always brings the heat.
