The Morning Commute for Wednesday, July 16th.
Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about the Rock M’mys.
As sports slow down in the summer months, Karen and the team at Rock M Nation have put together the third annual Rock M’mys award, which Karen says is part Emmy, part Espy, and all parts love of Mizzou Athletics.”
The M’mys are now underway and the first award (and a new award!) — Best Photo — has already began its voting process.
Quite the race for Best Photo so far in the introductory @RockMNation Rock M’my category! Still plenty of time to vote for your fave as voting closes July 25 at 11pm CST. https://t.co/bmmE0Jlrtf pic.twitter.com/3Qk0lhMaO1

Since Karen’s voting update at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, things remain tight knit with basically a three-way tie between the Brady Cook football photo, Helen Hu beaming, and a distance swimming photo. Voting for Best Photo ends on July 25th.
Next up, you’ll get an opportunity to vote on Newcomer of the Year. Voting opens today so stay tuned! Rock M+ subscribers already know who the nominees are.
We highly encourage you to keep your eyes peeled to this site for all the awards fun over the next few weeks. Here’s the schedule:
Monday, July 14: Best Photo
Wednesday, July 16: Newcomer of the Year
Friday, July 18: I’m Him/I’m Her (Best Performance)
Sunday, July 20: Best Performance in a Supporting Role

Mizzou Quarterback/RHP Sam Horn has been selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 17th round of the draft with the 525th overall pick.
It was later than expected, mainly due to coming off of injury and his commitment to football.
It was interesting watching Sam Horn fall so far, and I’ve heard a lot of rumor he is likely to not sign a contract with the Dodgers — especially with how late he fell. This is something interesting to keep an eye on.
So what do you do when you lose 37 players to the portal? Well, you bring in 34 transfers to replace them, of course!
Yes, that’s almost an entire two-deep of players who were playing somewhere else last year.
This is quite a jump from Mizzou’s 22 transfers but while this number seems large and is surprising, I could see a lot of coaches start to lean into thi`s strategy — and Eli Drinkwitz might be one of those coaches.
- Over at Rock M+, we’re talking about football and basketball recruiting!
