The Morning Commute for Tuesday, May 15
Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about Tamar Bates and Caleb Grill
Mizzou Basketball was well-represented over the weekend at the NBA’s G-League Elite Camp.
Former Tigers Tamar Bates and Caleb Grill both impressed scouts in hopes of making an NBA roster in the near future.
Spent some time with Missouri’s Tamar Bates in Southern California last week.
Bates is having a strong pre-draft process, making his way from PIT to G League Elite Camp, where he had 19 points in 22 min yesterday. Measured well at 6’5 with a 6’10 wingspan. 40% 3-point shooter. pic.twitter.com/w0eq1qIaDo

Strong showing for Mizzou’s Caleb Grill here at the G League Elite Camp.
19 PTS on just 8 FGA’s to go along w/ sharp defense, consistent effort, unselfish extra passes, and evident toughness.
Measured and tested well w/ a +5 ¼”
wingspan, 38” max vert, and GLE-best lane shuttle. pic.twitter.com/6nQQadOgj2— Jon Chepkevich (@JonChep) May 11, 2025

Unfortunately, Grill didn’t make the cut — but after a strong performance in the G League Elite Camp, Bates was one of five players to earn an invite to the NBA Draft Combine.
Congrats to @MizzouHoops prospect Tamar Bates, whose strong play at #GLeagueEliteCamp has earned him a spot in the #NBADraftCombine this week in Chicago. pic.twitter.com/jmQXd3ZnFn

The combine runs from Wednesday through Sunday this week in Chicago and can be seen on ESPN2 and NBATV.
Best of luck to Grill and Bates in the NBA Draft process. For more discussion, check out RockM+.

“But gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahtdam does it feel good to see Mizzou Baseball put up a conference dub. And another. And another.”
Man, it’s been a rough year for this team. But good to see them finally get some SEC wins.
New at @RockMNation: one of the greatest wrestlers in #Mizzou history is making the jump to coaching. 2x national champion Keegan O’Toole will join the Tigers as an assistant.#TigerStylehttps://t.co/pLNjmCGybm
— Matthew Gustafson (@M_Gustafson27) May 12, 2025
“O’Toole won two national titles and was a five-time All-American with the Tigers from 2020 to 2025, the best wrestler the program had seen since Olympian J’den Cox.”
Welcome back to the Tiger Style program, Keegan!
