Commute: Mizzou’s Sam Horn Selected By Los Angeles Dodgers in 17th Round of MLB Draft

July 15, 2025 by Rock M Nation

The Morning Commute for Tuesday, July 15

Welcome to the Morning Commute

Today we’re talking about Mizzou Baseball in the MLB Draft

One of the few bright spots from the Missouri Tigers’ baseball season has heard his named called in the 2025 MLB Draft.

Mizzou Quarterback/RHP Sam Horn has been selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 17th round of the draft with the 525th overall pick.

It was later than expected, mainly due to coming off of injury and his commitment to football.

Sam Horn has been drafted in the 17th round by the Dodgers, likely falling because of his dual sport status. It wouldn’t be shocking to see him not end up signing, as he could go much higher next year if he makes a full commitment to baseball after football season.@RockMNation https://t.co/Zxu2dE5jTi

Returning from Tommy John surgery, Horn saw a limited role on the mound for the Tigers this season but produced a 4.22 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 10.2 innings pitched – with the bulk of his outings coming in SEC play.

In the 2023 season prior to his Tommy John surgery, Horn appeared in just two games in his freshman year against nationally ranked TCU and Florida International – both resulting in non-conference wins for Missouri. Horn posted a 0.00 ERA with six strikeouts in 4.1 innings pitched. He then missed all of 2024 due to injury.

Horn will have the decision to sign a professional contract with the Dodgers or return to the Missouri Baseball team for another season.

However, if Horn does sign with the Dodgers, he can theoretically still play for the Mizzou Football team this upcoming season – where he is expected to be the backup quarterback to Penn State transfer Beau Pribula.

Infielder Jackson Lovich was also drafted — being selected in the 16th round by the New York Yankees.

Jackson Lovich is the first current #Mizzou Baseball player to be selected in this year’s draft, going in the 16th round following a tremendous junior year. It remains to be seen if he will sign or return to the Tigers in hopes of a higher round next season.@RockMNation https://t.co/TJuYuSulqa

Elsewhere, incoming Mizzou Baseball commit Camden Lohman (Fort Zumwalt North High School) was selected in the 8th round by the New York Mets.

  • Morning Commute from Josh Matejka: Scottie Adkinson impresses in weekend EYBL games

“All the Mizzou Basketball chatter has centered around Jason Crowe, Jr., the top 10 recruit who may or may not choose Mizzou later this week. But let’s not forget that Mizzou already has an elite talent on the board for the 2027 class in Webster Groves’ own Scottie Adkinson, who was in action for Mokan Elite this weekend.”

Everybody’s excited for the potential commitment of Jason Crowe Jr. and rightfully so, but there’s also plenty to be excited about in Scottie Adkinson.

  • 2024-2024 Rock M’mys from Karen Steger: Best Photo with pics from Cal Tobias and Michael Baniewicz

The first edition of @karensteger’s 2024-2025 Rock M’mys features Best Photo (with pics from @CalTobiasPhoto and Michael Baniewicz throughout the #Mizzou Athletics year). Voting ends on Friday, July 25th at 11:00 p.m. CST. ⤵️ https://t.co/seAzg0iaid

“First up is a brand-new category, Best Photograph! Technically, we could have added this last year when Cal came on staff, but now that we have two photographers, Cal and Mike, on staff (and a third, Sam Simon, who would drop in in a pinch), it seemed like the perfect time for a little competition.”

There were a lot of good photos to choose from on the Mizzou Athletics year but go vote on the best one before voting ends on July 25th. (As I’m writing this, “In the Silence (Swim+Dive)” currently has a narrow lead).
