The Morning Commute for Tuesday, July 8
Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about Eli Drinkwitz
It must be that time of year for preseason watch lists. On Monday, the Dodd Trophy announced their preseason watch list candidates for 26 head coaches.

Drinkwitz is one of eight SEC coaches on the watchlist joining Mike Elko (Texas A&M), Kalen Deboer (Alabama), Josh Heupel (Tennessee), Brian Kelly (LSU), Steve Sarkisian (Texas), Kirby Smart (Georgia), and Brett Venables (Oklahoma).
After clinching back-to-back 10-win seasons for the program for the first time since 2013-2014, this marks a well-deserved recognition for Eli Drinkwitz.
“He has also guided the Tigers to a 27-7 (.794) overall record on Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium, giving him the best home win percentage (minimum four seasons) in the history of the program. The Tigers’ 27 home wins since 2020 is tied with Ole Miss for the third-most in the SEC. The pair trail only the University of Alabama (32) and the University of Georgia (28) during that stretch.”

“Yesterday, Joe Tipton at On3 broke a little story that had Mizzou fans a-buzzing.
Well, well, well…stay tuned leading up to Jason Crowe Jr.’s commitment on July 18th.
“Who is the best recruiter at Mizzou? Is it Eli Drinkwitz, who has seemingly elevated Mizzou to new heights in the football ‘crootin game? Is it Dennis Gates, who has Mizzou making moves for high level guys every class? Is it Brian Smith, who has built a powerhouse program on elite talent identification and development? Or is it someone I’m callously leaving out? Let us know!”
I’d put a vote down for Shannon Welker in the “other”. (EDITOR’S NOTE: me too, Sammy!!)
“Playing time won’t be assured for the Humble, Texas, native, but his path to plate appearances is clearer with the Tigers. Jordan gives Kerrick Jackson another talented, young player to mold.”
After a rough season, Kerrick Jackson’s transfer class is looking respectable for Mizzou Baseball.
