Commute: Laird Veatch details revenue sharing

June 14, 2025 by Rock M Nation

The Morning Commute for Friday, June 13th, 2025.

Welcome to the Morning Commute

Last Friday the House settlement was finally approved. By this point I’m sure most of you know what the House settlement is, so I won’t rehash anything you all are acutely aware of by this stage of the game.

What is new is yesterday, Mizzou Athletic Director Laird Veatch met with the media to talk about it. I think we’ve got more coming on it so I won’t go too deep but perhaps the most relevant part might be the least surprising:

As announced, the bulk of #Mizzou‘s revenue sharing dollars will go towards football & men’s basketball. There will be other sports that receive it, as well, but not ALL sports will.

AD Laird Veatch says right now they will not be sharing which sports get what or a full… pic.twitter.com/XriqR9pT9i

This is, of course, what most of the schools around the country are doing. They’re going to spend their revenues on the sports that generate the revenues.

I’m not sure exactly what this means for the future of many of the programs around the country which don’t generate revenue. And that’s not even talking about the disparity in revenue generated between the SEC and Big 10 and the rest of the leagues. Those two are well ahead of other’s with their media rights deal, and that amount of money can help cover some scars in your budget, even with revenue sharing in place.

Missouri’s 18 sports (and change) aren’t on the chopping block… for now. But that’s not in question for now, the question is how mucho of the estimated $20.5 million is going to go to anything other than Men’s Basketball and Football.

And it’s also going to be interesting to see how it’s stands up against Title IX.

No predictions from me on this one. It’s been a wild few years and I expect it to continue to be wilder with lots of lawsuits. I can’t wait.

Yesterday at Rock M and Rock M+

  • Nathan continued his exploration of the top opposing players with South Carolina WR Nyck Harbor and Alabama LB Deontae Lawson:

Deontae Lawson is the type of player that can absolutely ruin the day of an offense, whether he’s properly accounted for or not. The range-y middle linebacker can make plays all over the field, whether it’s defending the run, covering receivers downfield or rushing the passer. The best way to game plan for a player like Lawson is to keep him (and his play caller) off balance and playing off his heels rather than downhill.

  • Soccer released their schedule for the upcoming season:

University of Missouri soccer announced its 2025 schedule on Thursday unveiling the dates and times of its 18-game slate. The schedule features 10 contests at Audrey J. Walton stadium. In total, the Tigers will face six NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago. Missouri begins the year with a three-game homestand opening against Kansas State on Aug. 6 followed by South Dakota State and Youngstown State on Aug. 20 and 18, respectively.

You can read the rest about the schedule on MUTigers.com which is linked here.

  • WBB had a portion of their schedule revealed with the ACC/SEC matchups:

University of Missouri women’s basketball will host Cal in the annual ACC/SEC Challenge contest as announced by ESPN on Thursday. The cross-conference matchup will be played at home in Mizzou Arena on Thursday, Dec. 4.

Cal is a tough matchup, they were 25-9 and an NCAA Tournament team last season. You might also recall Mizzou and Cal coach Charmin Smith were connected this past offseason mostly due to Smith growing up in St. Louis.

  • Over at Rock M+, we’re talking about Softball transfers and Basketball schedules:

So, the schedule is looking similar to prior seasons with this staff. Bringing Minnesota in for a return game would (hypothetically) be on par with the Cal game from last season and probably teeter between Quads 2 and 3. Again, there might be a situation where MU only leaves the state once in non-con and plays just one true road game.

We got a date for the trip to Notre Dame.
