The Morning Commute for Thursday, July 17
Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about Mizzou’s SEC Media Day.
It’s Mizzou’s time to make their appearance at the 2025 SEC Media Days in Atlanta along with Kentucky, Arkansas, and Texas A&M as today marks the final day of the event.
Eli Drinkwitz is the first head coach to take the podium – shorty after 8:00 a.m. CST live on the SEC Network.
In case if you missed it – Daylan Carnell, Connor Tollison, and Zion Young will be the Mizzou players attending.

Coming off back-to-win 10-win seasons – national expectations don’t seem to be as high for this new-look Tiger team in 2025 — as our partners over at FanDuel Sportsbook have Mizzou’s over/under win total set at 7.5.
Don’t tell that to Eli Drinkwitz, however. Back in late March, he told the Paul Finebaum Show that “this is the most talented football team that I’ve had since we’ve been here at the University of Missouri.”
@CoachDrinkwitz is high on his @MizzouFootball team in 2025:

Maybe he isn’t wrong as he’s bringing in an impressive transfer portal class — ranking third in the SEC only behind LSU and Ole Miss.
Despite the struggles in the high school recruiting cycle, #Mizzou has been dominant in the transfer portal, placing near the top across all ranking platforms.
It’s hard to argue with Drinkwitz’s preference of spending his NIL budget in the portal — but questions still remain. pic.twitter.com/qoa6Ceq7cd

The SEC preseason poll will also be released later today (or Friday morning), and Mizzou will probably be picked to finish middle-of-the-pack or near bottom of the league, but this is your reminder that preseason polls are meaningless. As for the preseason all-SEC teams, I think there’s a good chance that we’ll see Cayden Green and Daylan Carnell be recognized.
We’ll have any notable coverage here on Rock M Nation and RockM+.

It’s award season here on Rock M Nation, and our Rock M’mys coverage is just getting started.
“Mizzou fans will remember last year’s blowout loss to Texas A&M in College Station, but what may have been forgotten is that head coach Eli Drinkwitz and his staff spent much of the week preparing (publicly so) for Marcel Reed.”
Eli Drinkwitz and the staff will definitely be preparing for Marcel Reed this time around when A&M visits COMO this season.
NEW at @RockMNation: The Rock M’mmys continue. Today’s category is a tough one– Newcomer of the Year. The nominees led their teams, won awards, and in some cases, won championships. We left so many worthy nominees out of this one. https://t.co/fCiMBQW7Jq

“The Rock M staff was encouraged to make selections from an innumerable number of possibilities and came up with a list of three freshmen and four transfers from seven different sports who led their teams, won awards and in some cases, won championships.”
There were plenty of great candidates to choose from for the Newcomer of the Year. So go vote! (Gymnastics’ Olivia Kelly currently has a strong lead)
