MLB: St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Happy Friday! Today marks the start of Labor Day weekend, and the Cardinals will play a three-game series with the Brewers in Milwaukee starting tonight.

Adam Wainwright is slated to start for the Cardinals tonight, and, when he and Yadier Molina take the field together, it will mark the 300th time that battery has started a game together for the Cardinals.

On Thursday, VEB’s very own stlcardsfan4 took a deep dive into the history of Wainwright and Molina, from the starts of their careers and all the many memories the two have given us along the way.

A look at the origins of the Wainwright-Molina Battery

Zach Silver, a Cardinals reporter for MLB.com, had a story about Waino and Yadi regarding the history of this feat and the seemingly unbreakable bond the two share together.

Tomorrow, Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina start Game 300 together. Only three other batteries have as many. They are an all-time duo.

We know that Molina will be back for the 2022 season — what he has said will be his final season. If Wainwright were to come back and pitch a full season, the two would likely break the all-time record for most starts as a battery — a record that is nearly 50 years old.

Starting opposite of Wainwright tonight at American Family Field will be Freddy Peralta, who has missed the last two weeks with a shoulder issue. Paul Goldschmidt is 6-for-10 with two doubles and two homers facing Peralta. It’ll be a 7:10 first pitch tonight in Milwaukee.

Enjoy the weekend!
