Jake will be updating the latest rumors and executed deals across baseball through 6 PM CDT

Last night the St. Louis Cardinals began their sell-off by trading Closer Ryan Helsley to the New York Mets in exchange for 3 minor league players and Swingman lefty Steven Matz to the Boston Red Sox for minor league corner infielder Blaze Jordan. Phil Maton is certain to go as well today and there are rumors flying around about names like Nolan Arenado, Nolan Gorman, Brendan Donovan, Lars Nootbaar, and Alec Burleson.

The club would like to move on from Nolan Arenado with the intention of giving other young players more opportunities to get regular playing time and to move off as much salary as possible. The quartet of left-handed bats are drawing interest from multiple clubs around baseball, but the price tag is sky high, and one Cardinals source called a deal for any of those players “unlikely but listening.”

The rest of Major league baseball is moving and shaking, and it should be a rather eventful day and one that should include a ton of names moved. Over the last 24 hours we’ve seen elite high-end relievers like Jhoan Duran, Mason Miller, and the aforementioned Ryan Helsley be moved for some of the top young talent in the game. We also saw the top rental bat in Eugenio Suarez be reunited with the Seattle Mariners.

The NL Central is currently experiencing an arms race unfold, the Brewers acquired Catcher Danny Jansen and are said to be looking for another bat and an “optionable reliever.” The Cincinnati Reds acquired 3rd Basemen Ke ’Bryan Hayes from the Pittsburgh Pirates and RHP Zach Littel from the Tampa Bay Rays in a 3-team deal involving the Los Angeles Dodgers, as well. The Chicago Cubs have acquired RHP Michael Soroka from the Washington Nationals and old friend Andrew Kittredge from the Baltimore Orioles.

It should be a fun final 8 hours and I’m excited to track with you all! Happy deadline day!
