Three Marlins Prospects Landed On The All-Spring Breakout Team

March 24, 2024 by Last Word On Baseball

Three Miami Marlins prospects made the All-Spring Breakout Team despite being ranked one of the worst farm systems. The inaugural Spring Breakout games lasted from March 14-17 and showcased many young stars for the Miami Marlins. Miami hosted the St. Louis Cardinals and won by a score of 3-2.

Three Miami Marlins Prospects Who Made The All-Spring Breakout Team

The Marlins are one of three organizations that placed three prospects on the All-Spring Breakout Team. This is an impressive stat line for a team that is supposed to have the bare minimum of prospects. Miami stands in distinguished attendance, with the other two teams being arguably the best team in baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees. Being ranked with two of the biggest payroll teams in the league and having one of the lowest payrolls is a testament to their recent switch to a team environment and their hard work. The Fish had one player make the First Team and two players make the Second Team.

OF Griffin Conine

Griffin Conine, son of former professional baseball player Jeff Conine, has been named to the first team of the ‘All Spring-Breakout team.’. He went 2-3 in the game, with a homer and two RBIs. Both of his hits came off of top prospects from the Cardinals organization. The homer was from Max Rajcic and his RBI single came off of Tekoah Roby. Even though he had an amazing game, he is not currently ranked in the Marlins organization’s top 30 list by MLB Pipeline. Conine was drafted in 2018 by the Toronto Blue Jays and would be traded to the Marlins in 2020. Recently, in the past couple of years, he has been in the minor league system, and his success in the Spring Breakout surprised many. Once he develops as a player, he can follow in his dad’s footsteps and become an all-star player.

INF Yiddi Cappe

Yiddi Cappe was named to the second team as a second baseman. Cappe went 2-2 and stole a base in the game. He is ranked 7th in the Marlins top 30 prospects list. Cappe, 21, has been playing with the Marlins since 2021. In 2023, he played 123 games in the minors and posted 53 RBI and a .558 OPS. He is also a solid defender and plays second base or shortstop. Eventually, he can become a great addition to the Marlins once he matures.

LHP Thomas White

Like Cappe, LHP Thomas White also made the second team. He is the Marlins #2 prospect, behind Noble Meyer. In the Spring Breakout game, he pitched one inning giving up one walk and striking out three. He utilizes a powerful fastball that sits between 92-95 MPH and can showcase a high spin curveball that is about 80 MPH. Altogether he is a young, bright star who can very well be an amazing pitcher in the majors very soon.
