MISSOURI – The Missouri legislature returned for a special session Monday, and new bills have been introduced, with one focusing on the state’s baseball teams.
Senate Bill 18 was introduced by Sen. Nick Schroer (R-St. Charles County) on Wednesday, which proposes that the St. Louis Cardinals become the official professional baseball team in Missouri.
Within the two-sentence bill, it also requests that “any other professional baseball team that is presently in, or may subsequently locate in, the the state of Missouri shall be rightfully known and designated as a subpar professional baseball team.”
One of the primary focuses of the special session has been to “persuade the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals to continue playing in Missouri in new or improved stadiums,” as the Senate approved hundreds of millions of dollars worth of incentives Thursday, according to the Associated Press.
The bill also comes at a time when the in-state rivals just finished their three-game series in St. Louis, where the Royals led the Cardinals 2-1.
Senate Bill 18 was introduced, but has no other public progress, according to the Senate’s website.
FOX 2 reached out to Schroer for comment, but has not received an immediate response.
