ST. LOUIS – Opening Day for the St. Louis Cardinals is a tradition like none other. Tens of thousands have flocked to Downtown St. Louis to enjoy festivities and attend the first game of the new St. Louis Cardinals season.
Celebrations began early, with some fans arriving to downtown St. Louis at the crack of dawn. Crowds packed downtown pep rallies at Ballpark Village and Kiener Plaza.
Fans had the chance to enter Busch Stadium three hours ahead of game time. Batting practice for both teams, however, was canceled due to early-afternoon spot showers.
More celebrations are set to come. The on-field Opening Day ceremonies are scheduled for around 2:30 p.m. if weather cooperates. Fans can expect Clydesdales and Cardinals of the past and present to be escorted in Ford motorcade cars.
First pitch for the home opener is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. Follow FOX 2 online and on social media for more coverage throughout the day.
