Giving players for the Cardinals iconic Yankees nicknames out of petulance - A Hunt and Peck

It is gonna be a weird one.

You are probably wondering what the title of this post means, so here is some backstory. It began when I saw this tweet from the New York Yankees official Twitter account:

That is Giancarlo Stanton hitting a home run. See, you might not have realized that at first because the nickname is very hard to connect to him, which brings me to my issues with this…

I honestly do not see the problem with recycling nicknames. A lot of people have existed in the history of the world. Nicknames have certainly been re-used. It isn’t like “The Man”, while a cool nickname in its simplicity, is super creative, let’s be honest. It is perfect for someone like Stan Musial, who was always true to himself.

Overall I feel like people are far too critical of teams’ social media accounts. As someone that has run a smaller platform social media account from time-to-time, I have to tell you, it is terrible. Let’s show the overworked intern running these accounts a little compassion. Not every tweet or caption is going to be a winner — this business is about volume and clicks, my friends.

ANYWAY, all that is to say if another player was called The Man, that is fine. That is not my issue with this tweet. My issue is simple:

It doesn’t make sense! Stanton the Manton was right there! This is just taking an iconic nickname and using it for someone else whose name is not even Stan. So in the name of fairness, I am going to do that using iconic Yankees nicknames. (I got this idea from A Blog of Their Own.)
