- Fermin down.

The Game Summary
A night game, so will just hit the summary parts with observations and not so much the score card annotations.
The Padres put up runs in the first three innings. A combination of luck and some hard hit balls, especially Merrill’s HR to center. Cards down 4-0 early, which is the norm lately.
A seeing-eye single by Gorman posted a run in the 4th, then Pages really launched a 3-run HR into the third deck of Western Metal Supply Co, in the 4th to tie it at 4 each. New game.
McGreevy runs with that. He finds his breaking ball and change-up and puts up 3 zeroes. cards tack on 4 more runs, with Winn’s 2-RBI double a key hit. Matsui gifted the Cardinals late insurance with HBP and walks.
Leahy pitched 1.2 IP of shutout relief. Romero gives up a largely uncontested run in the ninth to wrap the save. 8-5 is your final.
Post-Game Notes and Observations
- I lived in Southern California for years. I sometimes forget we were blessed to live within 90 minutes of three MLB stadiums, so if you wanted to watch a game, you probably had a good chance.
- Gorman had a lot of plays tonight at third. Almost every throw was an adventure. left a lot to be desired.
- McGreevy doesn’t BS out on the mound at all. He sets a pretty swift pace. Once he got his curve and change dialed in, he went into attack mode. Good to see. I liked his mound presence.
