Rockies pitching shuts down Cardinal offense on get away day
Game Summary
The match continues. Pallante dug a large hole and the offense was no match. A rare shutout at Coors . 6-0 Rox.
Pre-Game Notes
- Sunny today, mostly.
- Wetherholt continues to rake at AAA. Is it a forgone conclusion that he comes up in late August?
Line-up (and roster) machinations
- Leahy down today, O’Brian probably on the avoid list.
- Fedde removed from roster. Granillo up.
- Gordon for Rockies. Pallante for Cards.
- Pozo at C, otherwise same.
The Game Summary
The Cardinals had traffic in the early innings, walks and singles. They couldn’t catch in though.
The Rockies singled Pallante to death in the second, putting a four spot up. He held it there till the fifth. Then another parade of walks and singles ensued, tracking on another run.
The Cardinals mustered 3 hits and 3 walks through the first five innings, but never really pressured Gordon. His stuff appeared…ordinary. The only hard hit ball was Walkers double. After that, not much life in the offense.
Granillo and King finished. King got touched for long solo HR.
Post-Game Notes and Observations
- Even many of Pallente’s warm up tosses miss the zone by a large margin. He seems to be trying to simplify his mechanics, but still has a little hitch during his drive that makes repetition hard.
- lots of sliders had near zero horizontal break. Cutters and sliders tough to throw here, Be tough on pitchers who rely on those pitches.
