Two pronouns. Fedde. Coors. ‘Nuf said.
Game Summary
Same song, different verse. The Rockies blitz Fedde for 6 early runs, backed by two long HR. The hole was too deep for offense to dig out of. 8-4 is your final.
Pre-Game Notes
- Rain in area. Will be a factor. Lightening to the south.
- all sections have at least some fans. Nice crowd for a wet Tuesday night.
Line-up (and roster) machinations
- Burly to play in spite of foot injury. These guys not ready to give up on the season.
- Fedde for Cards. Blalock for Rockies.
- Outfielders wearing pitchcom now?
The Game Summary
A night game, so will just hit the summary parts with observations and not so much the score card annotations.
Cards open with two runners in first and another in the second, but can’t capitalize. Outs on the bases in 2nd and 3rd innings contributed.
Moniak with first inning HR and 2 run double by Amador in 2nd stakes Rockies to early 3-0 lead. A McMahon 3-run homer in the third piles on.
Cards break thru in 4th for 2 runs. Arenado and Winn with RBI.
Leahy relieves Fedde to start the fourth. Rockies get to him in the 5th for a tack on run. Burlesons throw home was ill advised. 2 were out, fast runner on base, throw from medium to deep LF. No chance even if it had been pages running. Ugh.
Cardinals get a thing going against a tiring Blalock. Another base running mistake when Burleson doesn’t tag on line drive out to RF costing a run.
Donovan doubles in Scott to cut the lead. Walker missiles 111 mph off the CF wall, and scores on Pozos PH double to cut the lead to 7-4 in the 8th. Those earlier lost runs begin to loom large.
Kyle Leahy turned a yeoman relief effort to keep it close with 3.2 IP, 1 R, 7 K. King and O’Brien finished. O’brien gave up a run. Unearned.
Post-Game Notes and Observations
- Coors shows Statcast pitch movement data. Fedde has very little on any of his pitches. He was basically throwing BP to the a bad offense. The cutter is the worst?
- I have to suspect we have seen the last Fedde start. This can’t go on, can it?
- lot of warning track fly balls again. Hmmm.
- shouldn’t a team be able to win at least half their games before they do the fog and flashing lights thing when the closer enters?
