The St. Louis Cardinals enter tonight’s game 34-28 and 5 games back of the Chicago Cubs who will finally have to face a real opponent for the first time in 3 weeks. Credit to them for taking care of business but they get Skubal tonight. Of course this would be looked at more positively if the Cardinals weren’t facing arguably the top team in baseball in the Los Angeles Dodgers. L.A. enters tonight’s game at 38-25 and pacing a tough NL West.

The Cardinals coming off back-to-back series losses to the Rangers and Royals will turn to Sonny Gray to set the tone for the remainder of the homestand. With rain in the forecast there will be a good chance for a delay later in the evening. The Dodgers will send young lefty Justin Wrobleski to the mound to start who is 1-1 with an ERA of 8.00 and will likely be an opener to face off against Donovan and Nootbaar. We saw the Tigers try this same tactic against the Cardinals recently and the two lefties at the top were able to neutralize the opener once but failed the 2nd time.

How to watch: FanDuel Sports Midwest, Matrix Midwest/KMOV-4

How to listen: 1120 AM KMOX/104.1 FM

First pitch: 7:15 PM

Matchup:

STL: Sonny Gray (6-1 3.65 ERA 3.94 xERA 3.27 FIP 3.05 xFIP)

Vs

LAD: Justin Wrobleski (1-1 8.00 ERA 5.07 xERA 5.19 FIP 3.74 xFIP)

Player to watch:

STL: Willson Contreras – Willson has started to heat back up again! In his last 7 games he’s 8-27 slashing .296/.367/.444 with 7 RBI. Look for Willson to get an early RBI opportunity in this game and to put together several tough at bats tonight.

LAD: Shohei Ohtani – I mean, what do I really have to say? 23 HR and 39 RBI he’s hitting .295 and carries a 1.037 OPS for the season! We’re witnessing one of the greatest players of all time and it’s scary as hell to watch him as the opposition but as a baseball fan is an enormous privilege. Look for the unicorn to do something incredible as he seems to on a nightly basis.
