Birds begin homestand against Red Legs
Fresh off of a 4-3 road trip that saw the St. Louis Cardinals drop 3 of 4 against the Milwaukee Brewers before getting right with a sweep against the Chicago White Sox. The Cincinnati Reds come to town in a suddenly very tight middle of the NL Central where the Cardinals, Brewers, and Reds are all separated by a game or less in the standings. All 3 trail the 1st place Chicago Cubs who come to town after the Reds. Playing against a solid Seattle Mariners team there is a good opportunity for the Cardinals to gain ground and create a little distance between themselves and the Reds.
Thomas Saggese has been recalled from Memphis and Ivan Herrera has been placed on the IL with a hamstring strain, per official announcement. The Cardinals will send Andre Pallante to the mound to be opposed by Brady Singer for Cincinnati.
How to watch: FanDuel Sports Midwest, Matrix Midwest/KMOV-4
How to listen: 1120AM KMOX/104.1 FM, 880 AM WJIR (Spanish broadcast)
First pitch: 6:15 PM
Matchup:
STL: Andre Pallante – (4-3 4.83 ERA 4.33 xERA 4.58 FIP 3.60 xFIP)
vs
CIN: Brady Singer – (7-4 4.34 ERA 4.88xERA 4.39 FIP 4.63 xFIP)
Player to watch:
STL- Alec Burleson: Over his last 30 games, Burly, is slashing .379/.414/.583 for a .997 OPS hitting 5 HR and driving in 15 RBI over that span. After a 2nd half that saw Alec’s production drop off, he has returned to form from the first half of last season, and should be a regular in the middle of the lineup once again. He’s earned that opportunity.
CIN- Spencer Steer: Over his last 30 games, Steer, is slashing .272/.318/.379 for a .697 OPS hitting 2 HR and driving in 13 RBI over that span. Steer hasn’t hit for much power over the last month but has still maintained a consistent steady level of production. Andre Pallante has notoriously fared worse against RHH so look for Steer to have another steady productive day.
