ST. LOUIS — Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson went to school on Monday.
The rookie, who finished third in the NL Rookie of the Year voting, spent his day at Hickey Elementary School in St. Louis to give away 250 coats to students. Carlson partnered with United Health Care for the fundraiser that will benefit a neighborhood school where most of the students walk to school.
Carlson’s work off the diamond matched his performance on it, accumulating an impressive .266 batting average on 144 hits and 18 homeruns. The rookie played every position in the outfield and hit in nearly every spot of the batting lineup.
Carlson also made history, becoming the first athlete in AL/NL history to register a pair of multihomer games with each effort coming from different sides of the plate.
Carlson is set to return to the diamond on March 31 when the Cardinals head to Pittsburgh for Opening Day 2022.
