The St. Louis Cardinals announced a series of roster moves ahead of their game with the Texas Rangers on Saturday. The team has recalled right-hander Roddery Munoz and selected utilityman Ryan Vilade from Triple-A. In corresponding moves, right-hander Gordon Graceffo has been optioned to Triple-A. Outfielder Jordan Walker will be hitting the 10-day IL with left wrist inflammation. His IL stint is retroactive to May 29th.

Jordan Walker Heads to the IL
While there’s never an opportune time for an injury, Walker’s is really bad timing for the former first-round pick. He was off to a tough start at the dish, but since May 13th, he’s been hitting .333 with a .879 OPS. He was still striking out at an alarming rate, 37.8% of the time, but it seemed he may have been turning a corner after a dismal start to the year. The Cardinals were content with him getting the bulk of the right field duties this season to see if he could deliver on the first-round prospect pedigree in his age-23 season.
For now, the Cardinals will have a bit more playing time for the likes of Alec Burleson and Brendan Donovan. The Cardinals have had a tough time finding spots for all of their young players to play, but they’re still winning baseball games either way.

Ryan Vilade, 26, is hoping to finally stick in the big leagues. At Triple-A this season, he’s hitting .280 with a .851 OPS across 192 plate appearances. He’s played six positions in the minors, only missing out on catcher and shortstop. He’ll likely be used in a utility role for the Red Birds. The Cardinals are currently hoping to chase down the upstart Chicago Cubs in the NL Central.
Roddery Munoz Called Up
Munoz, 25, will get another taste of big league action this season. His first go-around was a bit of a mess. However, with a fastball that sits in the upper 90s and pretty good swing and miss stuff, the Cardinals are hoping he’ll give them a decent option out of the bullpen for the time being.
The Cardinals are currently 32-25 and sit three games behind the first-place Cubs. If the season ended today, they’d be tied with the San Francisco Giants for the third Wild Card slot.
