The Cardinals added two college pitchers with contrasting profiles and plenty of upside
The Cardinals added two college pitchers to their system on Day 2 of the MLB Draft, selecting Ethan Young (East Carolina) in the fifth round and Matthew Miura (Hawai‘i) in the sixth.
Young, a hard-throwing righty, posted a 5-0 record with a 3.84 ERA and 92 strikeouts over 70.1 innings in his lone season at ECU. He is known for his mid-90s fastball that’s touched 99, giving him upside despite working mostly in relief.
Miura, a left-hander from the University of Hawai‘i, brings a different flavor to the mix. While details on his college stats are still emerging, the Cardinals clearly see potential in his command and pitchability. His selection continues the club’s trend of targeting versatile collegiate arms with developmental upside.
With these picks, St. Louis adds depth and flexibility to a farm system looking to rebound.
