ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Blues are heating up at the right time for a playoff push, riding a 10-game winning streak into Thursday. It’s one of their longest winning streaks in franchise history, but they’re still chasing the record.
The Blues’ season-best 10-game winning streak began on March 15 and is currently tied for the second-longest in franchise history.
With a win on Thursday, the Blues would match their franchise record of 11 consecutive victories. If they win their next two games, Thursday and Saturday, they would set a new franchise record with at least 12 consecutive victories.
So when was the St. Louis Blues’ longest winning streak? It came in 2019, the same year they won their only Stanley Cup title.
From Jan. 23, 2019, to Feb. 19, 2019, the Blues won 11 consecutive games to set their current franchise record. The streak’s defining moment came in a dramatic overtime victory at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Much like this year, the streak propelled the Blues from longshot playoff contenders to the brink of a playoff berth. However, this year’s Blues are surging even later in the season, capitalizing at a time with an even slimmer margin for error.
Five players from that record-setting run remain on the roster: Jordan Binnington, Colton Parayko, Brayden Schenn, Oskar Sundqvist, and Robert Thomas. The experience could be crucial as the Blues look to sustain momentum for a playoff push.
This year’s St. Louis Blues currently hold the second and final wild-card seed in the Western Conference playoff picture. They enter Thursday with a record of 41-28-7 (89 points) with six regular season games remaining.
The Blues could clinch playoffs with five more victories in their final six games or some unique combination of Blues wins and losses from the Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks and Utah Hockey Club, three teams just outside the playoff bubble.
