NHL Predictions: October 15 St. Louis Blues Vs. Chicago Blackhawks

Welcome back to another NHL Predictions. Each day, our writers here at Last Word on Hockey look at the games and give in-depth analysis. Our team breaks down the key matchups, storylines, and statistics, then makes predictions based on how they might unfold. For this edition, a rivalry renews in the Central Division. NHL Predictions

St. Louis Blues vs. Chicago Blackhawks

Time: 9:30 P.M. Eastern Time

TV: TNT, HBO Max

2024-25 Season Series: Blues Won 3-0

The Blues swept their rivals last season, winning all three games. The teams did not meet until the Winter Classic at Wrigley Field, where defenceman Cam Fowler stole the show with two goals in his 1,000th game. The other two games took place in St. Louis. The Blues won a high-scoring game in a shootout, 6-5. Lastly, they completed the sweep with a convincing 4-1 win in March.

The Blues’ Story

The Blues return home after a brief, but successful, two-game road trip. The team won both games, scoring a total of nine goals. Jake Neighbours was a standout of the road trip, scoring three goals. Rookie Jimmy Snuggerud, playing alongside new linemates, had a strong game Monday night. Snuggerud scored two goals, his first multi-goal game of his career. 

Speaking of Snuggerud’s new line, all three have played well on Monday. Snuggerud, Pius Suter, and Mathieu Joseph have played with strong chemistry. It is only one game, but their performance is worth noting. As beat writer Jeremy Rutherford points out, this line is excelling in more ways than one at the moment. 

It will be interesting to see if they can continue that success on Wednesday.

The Blackhawks’ Story

After losing their first three games, the Blackhawks got into the win column on Monday with their win over the Utah Mammoth. The first win is sometimes the hardest, especially when a team starts the season on a losing streak. 

Speaking of losing streaks, the Hawks have one against their rival. The Blackhawks have lost their last five games against the Blues. Their last win against the Blue Note came in December of 2023. Furthermore, the Blackhawks have not won a season series with the Blues since the 2018-19 season. Ironically, the Blackhawks missed the playoffs that season for the first time since the 2007-08 season, while the Blues went on to win their first Stanley Cup. 

The Blackhawks are a rebuilding team. There is no expectation for them to be a playoff contender this season. As a result, the organization will look to pick meaningful wins here and there. A road win against a division rival can be one of those meaningful wins. 

Prediction

Before we make our prediction, we have a fun fact to share with you. Since November 2021, the Blues and Blackhawks have only played in two games in which the final margin was one goal. Of course, there were some games where the two-goal margin came via an empty-net goal, but that is still an interesting trend. 

Does that trend continue on Wednesday? We think so. Does the Blues’ win streak against the Blackhawks also continue? We think so. 

Blues win, 6-3. 

Prop Bets

The over/under is set at 5.5 goals. We are taking the over with nine goals. 

If nine goals are scored, the stars of both teams will be getting into the action. For the Blackhawks, we are taking Connor Bedard as an anytime scorer. For the Blues, we are choosing Robert Thomas. Furthermore, the new Joseph-Suter-Snuggerud line scores a goal.
