NHL Predictions

Washington Capitals vs Carolina Hurricanes

Series Head-to-Head: Capitals 1-2 Hurricanes

Time: 7 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)

TV: TNT, TruTV, TVAS, Sportsnet, Max

This is an important Game 4 in our NHL predictions between the Capitals and Hurricanes. Carolina got a massive performance from Frederik Andersen to give a 2-1 series lead. Jack Roslovic recorded a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes in the first game in Raleigh.

Washington wasn’t able to get anything started on the offensive end and now finds itself in a pretty much must-win game. Players like Alex Ovechkin have struggled in this round and the Capitals need him to turn things around if they want to even this series up.

In this set of NHL predictions, let’s take a look at the stats and storylines heading into Game 3.

The Capitals Story

Washington has been inconsistent on the offensive end in this second round. The Capitals were able to find goals in the opening-round series against the Montreal Canadiens. However, Washington has struggled to crack a very stout Carolina defence.

Logan Thompson has done well in games this series. However, he’s going to need some offensive support in order for the Capitals to take back momentum.

Dylan Strome leads the team in points with 10 so far. Connor McMichael and Ovechkin are tied for the team-lead in goals with four. However, Ovechkin needs to find the net for the Capitals.

The Hurricanes Story

Andersen and the defence have been great this series. Washington’s offence was coming in with a lot of momentum, but the Carolina blueline group have been great. We’ve seen the Hurricanes limit the Capitals’ chances and frustrate them.

The Dane’s 21 saves in Game 3 have Carolina a chance at getting an important 3-1 series lead. The Hurricanes have yet to lose at home in the post-season.

Sebastian Aho leads the way in points for Carolina with nine with Andrei Svechnikov and Seth Jarvis both tied for second with seven. Svechnikov is the team-leader in goals with six so far in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Prediction

Carolina seems to have all of the momentum. However, Washington is pretty solid at making adjustments. The Capitals are 2-0 after losses this post-season and will come out with a better effort in Game 4.

The trends seem to be point towards the Canes, but the Capitals find their way back into the win column. A win here turns this into a best-of-three between the two evenly-matched squads.

Prediction: Capitals win 3-2.

Prop Bets of the Night

We round out NHL predictions with some prop bets of the night. The over/under for this game is 5.5 and we think the under is a strong play in this game with the way both offences have been scoring.

As for individual props, go with Tom Wilson to get a point for the Capitals. On the Hurricanes side of things, go with Aho to net a power-play point.
