The #Oilers have acquired centreman Klim Kostin from St. Louis in exchange for defenceman Dmitri Samorukov. Kostin was drafted 31st overall in 2017 & has scored 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists) in 46 career NHL games.

The Oilers have added another centre to the team, as they have swapped Klim Kostin for Dmitry Samorukov.

Both Kostin and Samorukov spent a portion of their season playing in the AHL. Kostin spent 17 games with the Springfield Thunderbird and recorded 6 points with a +3. Samorukov spent 51 games with the Bakersfield Condors, and recorded 18 points with a +16.

Kostin also helped take the Thunderbirds to the Calder Cup finals, recording 8 points in 18 playoff games.

What This Means

Although both players are AHLers and were put on waivers, Kostin may add some needed bottom six centre depth to the Oilers roster. Samorukov will most likely make a solid impact with the Thunderbirds, and will fill a top 4 defensive spot.

Samorukov joins a really good Thunderbirds team that was close to a championship. With his defensive impact in Bakersfield, he may be able to help add the extra kick that Springfield was missing, He can hopefully propel them to that elusive Calder Cup that Springfield missed out on last year.

Although Kostin may play in the NHL, he joins a subpar Condors team that hasn’t made a severe impact in the playoffs in a few seasons. If he does join the Oilers out of the gate, he will fill a bottom six centre role with the Oilers. Kostin can hopefully have the rebound season that he didn’t have last year with the Blues.

Of Klim Kostin’s first eight words in his postgame interview, four of them were “thank you.” As in thanking us for asking how it felt to get that first NHL goal and being told he looked happy. If anything, kid is polite. But good for him. There will be more of these to come … pic.twitter.com/q8xOnMzcRK
