ST. LOUIS – It is the hottest ticket in town: the Blues are back in the playoffs with Games 3 and 4 set for this week in front of a sellout crowd.
It’s been quite a long time for Blues fans—1,061 days, to be exact—since the last home playoff game.
“This is what it’s all about,” Nick Wierciak, the Blues’ vice president of ticketing, premium and suite sales, said. “There’s nothing quite like playoff hockey.”
Playoff hockey means good business for Wierciak and his team, with the expectation of standing room only on Thursday.
“We will absolutely be sold out for both games,” Wierciak said.
For this season, sellout crowds have not been as abundant as in years past when the Blues were consistently making the playoffs.
Ticket sales this year were down, but once the Blues turned things around, that all changed for one of the loudest atmospheres in the last couple of seasons.
“Last Tuesday’s game against Utah was an electric environment,” Wierciak said. “The most tickets we’ve sold and had in the building in the last year or year and a half.”
With playoff hockey on home ice on the horizon, Wierciak expects a ticket sales bump will likely spill into the beginning of next season.
“I think not making the postseason over the past two years, that hurt us a little bit. But now with the opportunity of being in it this year. The amazing 12 game home win streak that we have going on right now that has obviously taken us up and we are expecting this to really help for next season,” he explained.
