Blues/Coyotes Recap – The Kids Are Alright

Jordan Kyrou and Klim Kostin each score a pair of goals as Blues down Coyotes 7-4.

First Period Highlights –

Clayton Keller has been a pain in the ass when playing the Blues. Tonight was no different as he opened up the scoring with a power play goal. He’s up to 7 goals and 10 assists in 20 games against the Blues.

Less than two minutes later the Blues tied the game at one. Torey Krug fired an outlet pass to Jordan Kyrou. Kyrou set up newest Blue Pavel Buchnevich on a 2 on 1. Buchnevich scored on a one timer. The puck placement was perfect.

Jordan Binnington made the highlight reel again tonight with a great save.

Shots were 10-7 in favor of the Coyotes.

Second Period Highlights –

So Buchnevich did something great in the first. He also did something really stupid. He was given a match penalty for headbutting Lawson Crouse. While yes Crouse cross checked him in the face…He probably could’ve handled that better than using his head as a weapon.

As the Blues killed off the three minutes of power play time after the two minutes Crouse got for the aforementioned cross check…Crouse scored to give the Coyotes a one goal lead. I’d make some sort of hot dog joke as Phil Kessel was there to set up the goal but I’m sure it’s already been made.

Justin Faulk scored his second goal in as many games while the Blues were on the power play. Brandon Saad was denied in front by former Blue Carter Hutton. The puck came out to center ice. Faulk secured it and fired a wrist shot back on net and scored.

The game was tied but wouldn’t be for much longer. Jordan Kyrou scored moments later giving the Blues a 3-2 lead. Kyrou created a turnover in front of the Coyotes net. Kyrou fired a shot that Hutton had no chance on.

Klim Kostin found himself in the line up tonight and sure enough it paid off. Justin Faulk misfired on a shot and Robert Thomas was there to collect the puck. Thomas passed the puck over to Kostin. Kostin fired the puck back on net and in it went. 4-2 Blues.

Kostin wasn’t finished though. 47 seconds later Kostin scored again. Jake Neighbours won a battle for the puck behind the net. He then hit Kostin with a perfect pass in the slot. Kostin wasn’t gonna miss from there. 5-2 Blues.

Not to be outdone by Kostin…Kyrou scored his second goal of the period and the Blues 5th goal in five minutes and seven seconds. Ryan O’Reilly cleared the way for Kyrou. Kyrou made some moves that I’m not even sure you can do in NHL 22. The Coyotes probably should’ve just rage quit at this point.

The Blues outshot the Coyotes 16-7 in the second.

Third Period Highlights –

The Coyotes tried to make a game of it in the period as they’d score twice to get the score to 6-4. Christian Fischer drove to the front of the net as a Blues penalty was expiring. He got one shot off (clipping Binnington’s mask in the process) and would score on the rebound.

Ilya Lyubushkin collected a loose puck out in front of the net. He snapped a shot on net and scored.

Ivan Barbashev put an end to any dreams of a Coyote comeback with a goal four minutes later.

Final score 7-4 Blues win. Final shots were 33-26 in favor of the Blues. Next up for the Blues is the Golden Knights on Wednesday night. That game can be seen on TNT.
