Fox 2 Sports reporter Jordan Williams was in the Blues locker room after their 5-1 win over the Jets on Sunday at Enterprise Center. The victory evens the NHL playoff series at two wins apiece.
ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Blues cool the Winnipeg Jets once again and get even in their first-round playoff series, winning Game 4 in blowout fashion Sunday, 5-1, on home ice.
The first-round series is now tied at two games apiece. The home team has won each of the four contests so far.
Jake Neighbours, Tyler Tucker, Brayden Schenn, Justin Faulk, and Robert Thomas scored five unanswered goals in order after Winnipeg struck first on the scoresheet with a goal from Kyle Connor, his third of the series. Neighbours particularly enjoyed a strong game with a goal and two assists.
Jordan Binnington anchored the Blues to victory, stopping 30 of 31 Jets shots.
The Blues chased Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck out of the goal in the third period for the second consecutive game. Hellebuyck only saved 13 of 18 Blues shots before he was pulled.
Physicality was once again a big part of this game. The Blues and Jets both produced 40 hits apiece. Four game misconducts were issued over chippy play near the end of the game, including Mason Appleton and Adam Lowry of the Jets, along with Nathan Walker and Zac Bolduc of the Blues.
Pat Maroon, a Blues playoff hero in the 2019 Stanley Cup run and just weeks into retirement, made a spirited pregame cameo on the jumbotron to rally a capacity crowd just before puck drop.
The St. Louis Blues have won 14 consecutive games on home ice dating back to the 2024-25 regular season. Their first playoff series in three years will stretch at least six games.
The Blues and Jets are back in action Wednesday in Winnipeg, with an 8:30 p.m. CT scheduled puck drop.
QUOTES
Forward Jake Neighbours on scoring his first NHL playoff goal, an equalizer with 22 seconds left in the first period: “It was nice to get one and tie it up. The emotion of it, it’s just exciting. It’s playoffs. You want to compete for your team and help any way you can. It was a good feeling. The puck came in so slow I had time to line it up and make sure I got a good stick on it. It was kind of just a perfect storm.”
Captain Brayden Schenn on what it takes to beat Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck in playoffs: “You have to win the net-front battle. You have to go to the net. They’re not always pretty. But you get pucks to people, traffic to the net, and shoot the puck and hopefully good things happen.”
Defenseman Justin Faulk on goaltender Jordan Binnington: “He’s playing great. Making plays. He’s calm back there. He’s steady. It’s nice for us to eat when he’s playing like that. It gives you more confidence and allows you to be more aggressive. He’s got that kind of mentality that he’s ready to go and locked in.”
Defenseman Colton Parayko on the defense getting involved with the offense: “Trying to keep it simple. Trying to find the right opportunities to jump into the play and help out the forwards as much as possible. When we’re at our best we’re skating and being aggressive,”
Head coach Jim Montgomery: “We’re getting a little puck luck, but you get lucky puck luck when you’re playing the right way. … It’s a 2-out-of-3 [best of series] now. We got to try to win one on the road.”
